Biography

Highlights:

  • Classically trained in Rat Pack, Swing, and Jazz genres!
  • Broad repertoire including ballads, Rat Pack standards, swing, and more!
  • Extensive experience with live performances across the UK and internationally in Italy, France, Dubai, Oman, Austria, and more!

Richard, born in Surrey, exhibited a keen interest in music from a young age. Raised in a household filled with various musical genres due to his parents being choir singers, it was inevitable that Richard would pursue a career in music.

While already a proficient musician and a natural singer, it was a pivotal moment during the 1990 World Cup when Richard attended the renowned "Three Tenors" concert that solidified his calling for singing. Subsequently, he enrolled for classical voice training at The Blackheath Conservatoire in London, having weekly lessons for four years. This transformative period significantly altered his voice and musical trajectory.

Even before vocal training, Richard felt at ease singing in the style often referred to as saloon, lounge, or crooning. His passion lay in performing songs from the Golden Age of contemporary singing (1920s to 1960s), including those from "The Great American Songbook" and show tunes by legendary songwriters like Cole Porter, Irving Berlin, Jerome Kern, and Rodgers and Hammerstein. Classical training provided Richard's voice with increased power, range, and flexibility, and he continues to receive regular voice lessons.

Influenced by notable swing and jazz singers, Richard cites Nat King Cole, Andy Williams, Vic Damone, Ella Fitzgerald, Sarah Vaughan, Al Bowlly, and, notably, Frank Sinatra. However, his favorites are Matt Monro and Tony Bennett.

Richard's smooth and rich baritone voice adds a touch of class and elegance to various events. From romantic ballads like "Hello Young Lovers" and "We Kiss in a Shadow" to jazz standards including "Autumn Leaves," "Misty," and "Let There Be Love," he caters to a diverse musical palette. Richard also delivers swing classics like "Night and Day," "Come Fly With Me," and "Let’s Face the Music and Dance" for lively parties.

His versatility extends to powerful operatic arias, such as "The Toreador’s Song" from Carmen and "Non piu andrai" from The Marriage of Figaro, bringing sophistication to any event.

To date, Richard has graced prestigious venues across the UK, including the Grosvenor, Hilton, and Dorchester hotels on Park Lane, The London Hippodrome, Blenheim Palace, Hampton Court Palace, and Drumtochty Castle in Aberdeen. His international performances span Ireland, France, Germany, Austria, Italy, Cyprus, Crete, the Czech Republic, and destinations further afield like Dubai, Abu Dhabi, and Muscat in Oman.
